Blade Runner 2049
Blade Runner 2049 is Blade Runner fully realized. Villeneuve demonstrates he truly understands Science Fiction.
I found the performances in this film to be good across the board, Ryan Gosling truly embodies Officer K, the notion of a Replicant becoming humanized could not have been better conveyed.
In regard to tonal and thematic significance, this film is what it’s 1982 counterpart aspires to be. The original Blade Runner certainly had some deeper themes, but they feel far more vague when contrasted with the likes of Blade Runner 2049. The film is littered with religious iconography, and poses far more questions about what it means to be human.
The Cinematography is great, but to be quite frank, it would be nothing without the set pieces. the set pieces in this film are fucking incredible, easily my favorite of any film I have watched.
The Score is very well done and it’s synergy with the great cinematography really transports you into this dystopian world.
Artistically this film certainly delivers.
in closing, I think when discussing top entries in science fiction this film will undoubtedly appear, and that is with good reason; this film is an art piece if nothing else.
