Cowboy Bebop
YOU’RE GONNA CARRY THAT WEIGHT.
Anyone who has watched a good show or movie knows the feeling. To be completely captivated by the experience. Not only to enjoy it, but to be utterly mesmerized by it. Admittedly, I had never felt this way about an Anime series, that was, until I watched Cowboy Bebop.
Few Anime have reached the upper echelon attributed to great films, but Cowboy Bebop attains the same heights, artistically and thematically.
The writing in this show is absolutely excellent and the frequent use of heavy symbolism very much accentuated the already great story. While on the topic of the story, the individual stories of each of the main cast are executed with extreme care and intertwine wonderfully.
From a cinematic standpoint, sheer brilliance, and this is evident within the first 10 minutes of episode 1. I cannot imagine there were Anime constructed this way at the time, and if so, I would imagine they are limited in numbers.
A pretty significant, part of the show is the music, and musical references. Each episode title directly alludes to a specific song, or musical concept, which ties back to the episode somehow. I found this to be quite interesting and definitely worth mentioning.
In just 625 minutes Cowboy Bebop soars to heights I had not thought possible of the medium. Undoubtedly a testament to what an Anime can be.
