Memento
That was rlly quite amazing. Nolan masterfully threads a mystery from the beginning and the end to meet in the middle, and the truth is the mystery isn’t even about who killed his wife, it’s a mystery of who he is and who he was. It’s elevated from a simple mystery to a masterful questioning of reality, of truth, and whether truth really exists or if it’s just what we tell ourselves to be fact. Nolan really is manipulating time at his peak during this movie, however he is a bit let down by a few scene choices in the black and white that feel wayyyy too short and somewhat pointless simply because he needs enough cuts to get the entire coloured storyline. To a degree this is unavoidable but it did make me lose my train of thought a bit when there was an overly truncated scene, and a constant train of thought is important when watching this movie. Either way, I really really enjoyed this film and it shows how much of a prodigy Nolan was to be making this as his second full length film, just wow.
