Speak
“ i wonder how long it would take for anyone to notice if i just stopped talking. “
such a depressing movie. this is a real representation of someone enduring mental health problems while going through high school times. Kristen Stewart doesn’t disappoint while portraying a freshman girl who’s been sexually assaulted and doesn’t dare to speak up.
parents issues, school issues, friends issues, sexual assault trama, Speak doesn’t fail to show us all this in a crude way. the scene with Mr. Freeman and Melinda in the storage room, looking at all her paintings while he’s crying and she’s finally in joy to have spoken up just broke me into pieces.
also, that moment when Heather literally told Melinda that they couldn’t hang out together anymore because she was depressed it’s soo real. in high school times, no one cares about how you’re feeling or if something’s happening to you. most people (especially girls) only care about popularity, making friends and being known between people who’ll forget them once they graduate. Heather’s character is the exact example of that, she didn’t even care to ask Melinda if something was happening to her, she just blew her off. that’s another point for Speak, for being so realistic.
and the detail of how the coloring of the movie went more colorful as Melinda slowly gains strength to tell the people what happened to her it’s beautiful. might be one of the movies that did the biggest number on me.
