Olive Kitteridge
In four hour-long episodes, Olive kitteridge shows how time takes its toll on Jenkins and how Olive copes when her life keeps getting derailed. An extraordinary examination of the disappointments and the compromises we have in life, with such powerful themes brilliantly executed by Frances McDormand. Olive is far from a sympathetic person, she’s a gruffy lady, a complicated character, one that some people are drawn to and others pull back. She’s the embodiment of the idea that old people are not very different from babies, the difference though is in the self consciousness of dignity.
This is a writer’s show, a lot of disconnected extreme situations occur, and that’s because the book is apparently a collection of short stories and vignettes. Still the show manages to give the complete view of a community, humanity of a town, the positives, the secrets that people hide as well, parties and marriage but also the tragedies both personal and universal.
