Conclave
There's so many silly comments abt the vape and gossiping LMAOO but heres my homest thoughts:
HOOLYYYYYY. (lol) I never thought I'd love this movie – a movie about electing a new pope – as I do now.
The cinematography in this movie is amazing. The places where the scenes were shot were so nice to eyes. The acting as expressive, THE COSTUMESS WERE GREAATT and ugh, the message.
As someone who grew up in a very religious environment but had struggles with faith, I never thought I'll love a movie like this, but the message of the movie was the one that really spoke to me. Since the very first time Benitez arrived, I was already rooting for him since I heard his book character was Filipino but the film changed to Mexican, I didn't know if he was gonna be elected as a new pope or not, but nevertheless, I rooted for him so badd.
His speech about war satisfied me so much. UGHH I kept replaying itt It was everything I'd want to hear from someone soppusedly connected to God.> *"With respect, what do you know abou war?"
"What is it that you think we're fighting?"*And the last part where Benitez revealed his secret, that tied everything together. It hammered on more the point that the movie wanted it to prove. I'd understand why some extremely religious people might not like the ending, but that just drives to point further.
This is just how I consumed the movie, but to me, the point of the movie was that A man is more than his sins, more than his secrets, more than his past; We can never fully judge people based on how God created them. They're made that way. To judge or deem someone unworthy of something because of traits they were born with is to disrespect the creator of those traits + choosing a church leader is not the same as political war. There is no war to begin with. Like Benitez said, *"Those things are not the church." ugh i have more to say but im getting tired lowkey
*
The Dean (forgot his name, Tomas, maybe?) was so good tooo🥹
This movie showed great representation to identities often unrepresented. Deff will rewatch sometime<3
