i’ve heard that this was the goriest film out of the franchise and i was prepared to have a lot of nonsensical fun with the blood splatter. but for some reason even if there was more blood, the scenes felt more pale and less expressive with its use of gore. i didn’t feel excited enough for the gore to pop out. and a lot of it has to do with the poor writing of scenes. i mean this is the third film of the franchise and they still don’t know how to execute decent writing. relying on generic death troupes and the logic that something exists so it makes “sense” is the film’s ultimate downfall. this proves that excessive practical effects isn’t something that could carry a feature. i loved the use of fantasy elements in the second film, it added a great layer of depth to the world that is already bland enough. and this film could’ve used a lot of that fantasy aspect to complement more of the excessive gore instead of having it be there in such a less expressive way. people love to shit on rob zombie’s halloween 2 but i gotta say that terrifier 3 deals with the whole grief and ptsd characterization like it but does it worse. it covers the psychological trauma in such a one sided surface level way that i can’t really engage with this film empathetically. but i do think the best aspect of this film is how they showcase the insensitive natures of how the outside world could view survivors of trauma. as much as a lot of horror films embody characters as plain ignorant, i think this film does it pretty well. especially juxtaposing the ignorance alongside the inner trauma. but still this film was pretty bland for the 2 hr runtime.
