Hamnet
i finally decided to jump onto the bandwagon and watch this film after watching the oscar’s last night. the historic interpretation movie genre is not normally something i would reach for, however i wanted to see what all the hype was about.
i’ll start by saying that it the acting was wonderful and the oscar given to jessie buckley was well deserved; and, the actor of the little boy, hamnet, has a very bright future ahead of him.
however, for lack of better words, this movie left me feeling unmoved. the ending had one chilling moment that left me thinking “wow” but the build up to get to that moment felt unnecessarily long and dragged on. people know the story of shakespeare and his wife so when I put on a movie with so much universal praise, i was expecting more of a unique take.
overall, it is a solid film with an outstanding ending, I just anticipated more all-around excellence and charisma in a multiple oscar nominated movie.
