Superman
Superman fights ultraman in front of a black hole in this $225 million cgi riddled blockbuster.
And hell yeah it slaps.
I've never cared for superman, which is why I've never watched any superman films (except for a fan film to impress the director when I had a meeting with him) but I can more than happily say that I finally get it now. I get why people care about superman.
First off, this is really more like 4 stars but I'll get to the extra half star in a bit.
James Gunn you beautiful man, no one directs action like you, and no one balances sencere, heartfelt moments with comedy like you do. This film is fun, it's emotional, it's tense which I didn't even know was possible for superman!! The only downside is really that the exposition can be a bit clunky, but that never felt like a massive issue, more just a minor annoyance.
Above all, this is an anti imperialist, anti american, anti zionist, anti war, pro immigration, pro resistance SUMMER BLOCKBUSTER where a racist billionaire is the villain. Where superman is known for bringing hope in-universe, this film also brings a lilttle hope to our own world which is definitely worth half a star in my eyes.
