The Raid
Okay, before I start fangirling over this film, let me mention the 2 things that took it down half a star.
1. It's pretty racist (there are the regular bad guys, and then there are the dark skin, afro hair, machete wielding, crazy bad guys)
2. The plot(twist) is kinda poorly executed.
Now HOLY SHIT this film is insane. Easily the best "kind of copaganda but also kinda criticising the police" film I've ever seen.
The scene where he's wielding a knife and a police baton is absolutely up there with my favourite action scenes of all time.
Also there's one big of choreography that was used exactly the same in John Wick 3 and no shade to JW, some of my fave films but this film clearly inspired Chad stahelski when making them.
SPOILERS AHEAD
The decision to have the final bossfight be a 2v1 is so insanely ballsy, normally you'd see the hero fight multiple people at once BUT NOW two of them is barely enough. It also adds so much tension because if it's one of them you pretty much know they'll win the fight and live, but when it's two suddenly anything can happen.
This also made me appreciate george lucas a bit more.
What an INSANE film.
