Glad I finally watched it, and I can see why it’s a cult classic, but I can’t say I enjoyed it. Definitely not Happy birthday vibes…Bateman is fascinating because there’s seemingly nothing underneath the surface. Every opinion, music monologue and social observation feels memorised, like he’s read somewhere what an interesting or respectable person is supposed to say. Even visually, he looks almost too polished and glossy, like a product rather than a person. The satire is clever and occasionally funny, but the violence, sex and sheer moral emptiness made it genuinely unpleasant to sit through. The ambiguity around what actually happened, particularly with Paul Allen, is interesting, but the lack of any real resolution left me feeling more disturbed than satisfied. Either Bateman is losing his mind, or he lives among people so self-absorbed and morally vacant that even a murderer can disappear into the crowd.Well made, very memorable, and deeply unsettling. Glad I’ve seen it. Not sure I ever need to watch it again.
