GoodFellas
“As far back is I can remember, I always wanted to be a gangster.”
The ICONIC opening line in Goodfellas solidified this film as a classic when it released September 19, 1990 to a theater of unexpected movie goers who were about to witness the cinema landscape change for the better. My favorite things about Goodfellas are the famous Copacabana tracking shot, the way Paulie gently slices garlic, and of course…the “funny how” scene. The Rolling Stones song crashing with a cocaine and paranoia filled tomato sause dinner was both unnerving and satisfying. It’s one of Scorsese’s most rewatchable. It’s a perfect film from beginning to end. 5/5.
