Interstellar
This is why we see movies in theaters! Interstellar is the 2001: A Space Odyssey of our generation. They are both science fiction epics that have dramatic scores and explore humans' relationship with time. [SPOILERS] Also they both end with an elderly person lying on their deathbed in an all white room. Other than that, the premise and tone of Interstellar could not be more different from 2001. It’s emotional because of the foundation it lays within the first act. Although rushed, we see how much McConaughey‘s character cares for his kids, which makes his leaving them so devastating. The film's climax is not only visually astounding but a gut punch of the greatest degree. The Miller’s Planet sequence was one of the most thrilling moments of film I’ve ever seen on the big screen. The mind-bending imagery of space mixed with the majestic Hans Zimmer soundtrack will be edged in my mind forever. 5/5.
