Alien: Romulus

Nooo Isabela Merced don't inject yourself with xenomorph serum you're so sexy aha Probably the best new horror movie I've seen in like two years. Really great new angle on the whole "are androids human" thematic question. Andy (android, I get it, haha) was badass and an incredibly well-written and acted character. Loved the retro Ridley Scott-look to the movie, I'm glad they went that route and didn't choose the sleek Covenant path instead. And damn, it was actually scary! Not nightmare material, but it got me covering my mouth and shifting in my seat. Fede Alvarez knows how to get the audience on the hook; he knows how good, formulaic horror should work. And then once he's got you hooked, he either cranks the suspense up to 11 or makes his characters go through absolutely brutal stuff. Really, really great. I'd hope that if he were still around, Dan O'Bannon would approve.
