has to be up there with momento with how little information they reveal in each scene. needed a notebook for this thing — however, it makes it that much better when everything starts to click genuinely just went down a rabbit hole after seeing that this guy wrote the first three bourne identity movies, made this film in the middle of the franchise, and then went back and wrote and directed the last one. oh yeah his brother also did nightcrawler edit: read an interview and now “that guy” will be given enough respect to be referred to by his full name

if you would have told me that gosling teaches an alien science class at the end of this film, i’m not sure i would have watched it. is that how andy weir’s book ended? also shoutout sandra huller, eric tao, marcus from the bear, and the AT&T lady.

the idea behind structuring kate as the main character is very interesting. because she’s not the main character, alejandro is. this is the story of alejandro getting revenge for the murder of his wife and daughter, and we only find that out two thirds of the way into the movie. so why structure it around kate? well, it’s the same reason villanueve intercut scenes of the mexican police officer. it’s a story about how crime bleeds through. to families, to communities, to relationships. just because you’re on one side of the fence, doesn’t mean you’re not affected. just because you’re in the dark, like kate’s character, doesn’t mean the story isn’t being built around you.

absolutely devastating. exactly what this should have been. doesn’t tell the audience what to think, lets the pictures speak for themselves
