Sing Sing
I originally was going to give this movie a 4-star rating.
However the world of theater has entered my life recently again, and this film explored all of the thoughts I'd been having about it again.
I went to a musical the day before I watched this, and I'd forgotten again how beautiful art and performance is to bring community and joy into people's lives.
Don't get me wrong, I've only played in one play in my entire life, but the belonging I'd felt there is something I've never really been able to capture again.
The concept of working together as a team to build something beautiful, tragic, funny or scary on a stage can really bring out sides of people you don't see often in your average life. And this film explores that theme so well. The film feels so deeply human in the interactions of the characters, the stories of real life people and the earnestness of the performances.
A more grounded, honest and down to earth approach of your shawshank redemption type of movie.
