i guess theres just no way to adapt wuthering heights! the medium of film is not conducive to capturing all the depth and the layers of perspective. must we completely ignore the second half??? idk i just feel like sleeping dogs must be left to lie on this one.

sorry everyone, i liked it! visually stunning okay wait edit (from a few hours later): reading the book rn for the first time and i feel like emerald could have done this type of film without the misused and misunderstood pretense of wuthering heights itself. i mean theres almost no loyalty to the structure or content, so shes clearly imaginative enough to construct a story of this nature w/o proclaiming it an “adaptation.” used sooooo loosely to characterize this film! if she wanted to do this kind of stylized, gothic period piece, then more power to her! but no need to bastardize a classic in service of that goal (however well-intentioned she may be)!

upon rewatching, the realism with which araki captures my beautiful hometown is truly stunning! and endlessly flattering! so glad im not from the valley

had to watch this for class, didn’t knock my socks off but it was better than expected
