jesus fucking christ

i was so excited for this one, so i'm sad to report that it truly was worse than middling 😔 takes a solid premise and does very little with it. the writing gives these actors so little to work with that i almost don't blame them for the lackluster performances. it's sooo needlessly edgy. it feels like it has no interest in podcasting, demonology, its world, or its characters. it gestures at catholic trauma with its imagery but does nothing with it. the cinematography felt sloppy. it also feels vaguely like an anti-abortion ad. a couple good sequences but they were so few and far between. i try to grade directorial debuts less harshly and, genuinely, 1.5 stars feels pretty lenient here

white boy wish fulfillment final boss. can't believe benny safdie is the normal brother imagine doing this then thinking you're better than ballet *and* opera

oof ow ouch
