The Americans
The greatest love story of all time. Some of the best character work I’ve ever seen. This show really surprised me with how good their characters were, I was only expecting Phil and Liz to be great, and even they exceeded my expectations. They easily have the best dynamic in any TV show, and I highly doubt that any show could do it better. The side cast is actually really good though, and this show does an amazing job at making you feel connected to them. Every single season has something of value in it. In the ones that lack in plot, they make up for it by building these characters up. It makes the whole thing so much better, especially when you end it with that incredible last season and episode.
This show’s plot is also one of its major strong suits. In the earlier seasons, that was definitely the best aspect. They always knew how to engage the audience and create realistic stakes for the characters. It doesn’t move too fast either, they deliberately go at a pretty slow pace for the majority of the show, which makes it all the more better in the end. That finale is so masterful, it ties everything together while adding value to what came before, every single moment is worth it. This is probably low on your watchlist if it’s even on there, but trust me, it’s worth moving up.
