The Sopranos
When I finished season 2 of this show, I was really scared that this would be overrated. Season 3 gave me a lot of hope, but the same feelings came back with season 4. Of course though, those last seasons came in and blew me away, cementing the show as one of my favorites. There’s several layers with nearly all the characters in the show, it’s so impressive. Tony is obviously the greatest instance of this, one of the best written characters I’ve ever seen. Undoubtedly, it wouldn’t be possible with the work of James Gandolfini, among the best acting performances of all time.
The impact from this show is insane too. Setting the stage for a truly evil protagonist, and setting that bar extremely high. Even the individual episodes have so much influence to them, Pine Barrens being a prime example. Additionally, the dream sequences were some of the greatest in the show and clearly inspired a lot of creators. I’ll forever be grateful to this show and its contributors for the influence it’s had, although it isn’t my favorite of all time, my favorites wouldn’t exist or be nearly as good without it. The work it has done for television as a medium is undeniable.
I’ve been watching this show for 9 months, it hurts so much now that it’s over. I’m going to miss it a lot. Despite its flaws, it’s been an amazing experience.
9.8/10
