Aliens

Special Edition My 4K copy of this finally came in the mail today and I gave that bad boy a watch. I love this movie. It’s been a big part of my life. It’s one of those movies I have shows to many people for their first time. I have debated back and forth whether I like Alien or Aliens more.. I honestly don’t know. But I might prefer Aliens as of this rewatch… James Cameron really created a masterpiece here and a timeless film. It still holds up to this day. This film is one of those rare instances where the sequel is bigger and badder in all senses. They really ramped up the stakes and carnage here, and it’s all positive. Subjecting Ripley and her counterparts to more than one Xenomorph this time through was an excellent choice. It’s so cool to see the Xenomorph in action more and how they have a “hive” like system. There is a variation of the typical xenomorph in this film without getting into spoilers… you know what I’m talking about. That has EASILY got be one of the coolest creature designs ever. And guess what???? It’s all practical. All of the xenomorphs. (Minus one scene at the very end that seems to be CGI) It’s phenomenal! Stan Winston is an absolute genius. They look so good. This film is filled with practical effects and practical set designs. It all looks so incredible and makes you feel like you’re there. The film also sounds great too. The sound of the M41A Pulse Rifle is music to my ears. The movie is filled with amazing character, seriously. The colonial marines are such a fun addition. They’re all just a good rag tag group of soldiers that ooze personality and charm. Hudson and Hicks are my personal favorites and they get plenty of screen time to shine. Rip Bill Paxton. Ripleys character in this is so legendary. What they do with her and her arc is one of if not the best female character in cinema for me. “Get away from her you bitch!” Is an absolute classic and such a cool moment. Also the dialogue with some of these characters is so good. Many great and memorable lines. The story which they take this film is very enjoyable. It’s a great addition onto the first film and I love where this one picks up at. The story is able to balance a lot of horror and action and it’s such a good mix. They’re able to expand on the lore and the mythos as well and it’s all things I’m here for. I think the film ends of on a good note too and it’s too bad they couldn’t pick it up and take it home with Alien 3… It’s a classic. It has so many iconic sequences. It’s filled with great tension and it’s one of the best sci-fi movies ever. Honestly it’s just one of the best movies of all time in general. I stand by that and I always will! James Cameron really brought this film to life with its stunning visuals and effects. What an impressive movie.
