Aftersun
In a lot of ways, this movie was exactly what I expected - a slow burn with a lot of subtext and symbolism. Somehow the anti-climactic nature of it feels underwhelming, but the undertones throughout the movie and the thoughts you come away with are a lil overwhelming.
Not everyone has experienced loss like that, but it's probably a universal feeling to question your emotional understanding of your parents. This movie will have you rethinking every interaction with them. It's hard to accurately empathize (esp through the lens of memories) when the context of your relationship has been implicitly defined your whole life - this does a good job of bringing that feeling to life.
4.5 feels too high, idk prob wont watch again.
