OPAL
“We see you Opal”
It’s EXTREMELY prevalent in what the message conveys in this short film. Poor baby Claire, my heart is so soft for you, I feel so horrible.
God, so beautifully written and handled. Claire father is pure nightmare fuel but the mirrors are what makes him so distinguishable as a character. The mirrors are probably a form of symbol that he’s a narcissist, he likes his appearance and then his song, consists of objects that are mirrors and features of his face. His mirrors start to break and it actually causes his image to deteriorate and hurt him.
Claire mother, slurred speech, unable to recognize that her daughter Claire, is in front of her. She also hiccups too, therefore implying more that she’s a heavy drunk. Her vision is blurred and not steady?? If that makes any sense. Her song consists of never actually seeing Claire for whom she is.
Claire grandfather is dying slowly, but he’s actively destroying his health. He doesn’t even recognize her cause he’s blind.
I think the burger sign was a symbol of wanting to escape the constant cycle of abuse she experiences from home. I think it’s also something she clearly values as her source of happiness.
There’s so much deep meaning into this, yes it’s deeply disturbing but it’s disturbing for its own very reason. It shows themes of substance abuse, abuse, child neglect, disassociation
Opal being one of the birth stones in October, which is when this was released, I feel so honored to have that, as an October babes
