Project Hail Mary - Better than Interstellar? Absolutely Project Hail Mary is a movie released in 2026, directed by Phil Lord and Chris Miller. The movie follows a science teacher, Ryland Grace (Ryan Gosling), a normal science teacher who wakes up on a space ship, and finds out, he is the one person, who can save the world, finding himself on the Hail Mary. This was my very first IMAX screening! It was an incredible experience, but ruined every other cinema for me. I hope this one gets nominated for the following academy awards: Best cinematography Best visual effects (most done practical!) Best picture Best soundtrack Best actor (Ryan Gosling was absolutely brilliant in this role, really made me feel emotional.) And I had no idea a «rock» could make me extremely sad. I know this is a rather «hot take», but there was nothing wrong with it at all, absolutely everything was mastered in terms of filmmaking quality. Overall? I would HIGHLY recommend to see something very original, yet actually being a phenomenal movie! Although you have to be prepared for a slightly slower first half.

Death Proof - Maybe I should paint this on my car for Halloween? Death Proof is a movie released in 2007, directed and written by Quentin Tarantino. The movie follows Stuntman Mike (Kurt Russell), a body double. He likes targeting unsuspecting "weak" women in his freetime, he has made his car literally «death proof» for only the driver. But one day, he targets the wrong women, and one of them is played by Zoe Bell (the stuntwoman for Uma Thurman in Kill Bill). This movie is a really fun ride, but has some slower pacing than I would like for movies like this. It turned into a phenomenal thriller during the last 20 minutes because of the car chase, was on the edge of my seat all along. I’m not afraid to admit that this is a pretty mid tier film, especially coming from Quentin Tarantino. One thing I did find interesting though, was that the film used in the movie, to help with the grindhouse 70s style. Because either slowly transitioned from dirty, distorted - clean, grainy to symbolize the loss of the antagonist. I did not enjoy it thoroughly though, as though the dialogue felt much more experimental than I would like, it feels stiff, unnatural, poorly written. And when Quentin Tarantino acts on screen, he just comes off as annoying, and he should REALLY just stick to directing, because he’s good at that. I did like that they used 0 CGI, and only practical effects. And the pacing was pretty poor. Overall? It’s one of, or the worst Quentin Tarantino movies even if I haven’t seen the others, I would just recommend skipping this one, but if you are really invested into grindhouse style, watch it!

Planet Terror - What can you do without a girl with a machine gun leg? Planet Terror is a movie released in 2007, in a double feature with both «Death Proof» and «Planet Terror». The movie is directed by Robert Rodriguez. Planet Terror follows a small town in Texas, where a huge zombie outbreak comes along. Cherry (Rose McGowan) and Wrey (Freddy Rodriguez), her ex-lover try to survive in this hellhole. However the odds of survival becomes even lower when Cherry loses her leg due to a hungry zombie. This movie was released in a double feature, both movies follows the same 70s grindhouse style, although I feel this one pulls it off slightly better due to better grain, better camera shaking, and especially the missing reel scene is pretty funny. And what I noticed here was that this movie’s style wasn’t slowly transitioning, this was more «More chaotic = more ruined film roll». And the movie was just overall shot better, due to better lighting choices, color, set design and so on. And the acting here/dialogue was a step up from last movie, even if the dialogue was still utterly dogshit. Although most acting was decent-good, Quentin Tarantino can’t talk negative about other actors, when he is a terrible actor himself, and when he came onto this movie, I just got distracted. There isn’t really anything «bad» except the dialogue & Quentin’s acting. And the Mise-en-Scène isn’t great, but I assume this was done on purpose as the «grindhouse» style is all about parodying how poor the movies quality often was. Overall? I would recommend this more than the previous movie, but if you perfer something more emotional? Pick the last one. If you are an action junkie? Pick this one. I’ll watch both action and emotional as long as they are made well.

La Haine - What a movie to finish the first 100 movies of the year La Haine is a French movie released in 1995, directed by Mathieu Kassovitz. The movie follows Vinz (Vincent Cassel), Said (Saïd Taghmaoui) and Hubert (Hubert Koundé). These 3 lives in the suburbs of Paris. After a long riot after a Arab friend was tortured by police forces a long time, they are now actively raging at the police, while struggling to live peacefully in Paris. What an ending, like I don’t think I have felt this in a movie, ever. I’ve never been so shocked, I’ve never been this empty. And the black and white setting made the ending even more bleak. And the final 10 minutes of the film is literally the most stressful I’ve ever been, this is a good thing. It managed to do the one thing it was supposed to do, which many movies cannot do. It obviously has some incredible moral themes, like police brutality, systemic trauma, rotten production of surroundings, and violence. And what really helps the theme come together is the use of chiaroscuro (High contrast lighting that often makes silhouettes), this is because it adds a layer of mystery. It’s dialogue flows naturally, it’s pacing is incredible, it’s cinematography is perfect, it’s very consistent, the Mise-en-Scène is on point. This is one of those movies which is rare, because there is no negative things about it, I’ve either gave the scores an 8, 9, or 10 in all catagories, no negatives. **"Do you believe in God? Wrong question. Does God believe in us" or "Vous croyez en Dieu ? C'est pas la bonne question. Il faut pas se demander si on croit en Dieu, mais si Dieu croit en nous."** Overall? Phenomenal movie; watch it, alone. To be alone for this type of bleakness is the only thing that works.
