Thief is extremely aesthetically pleasing and James Caan gives one hell of a performance as Frank. I just think Thief is only alright though and a tad bit overrated, do not get me wrong it’s a good movie just not a masterpiece like some people make it out to be. Stunning cinematography and a brilliant score too however the plot just wasn’t there for me

Sidney Poitier is a joy in this and so is Rod Steiger and they work so well together. I think this is a solid film that has a nice spin on the usual cop film with it tackling racism along with cracking the case. It flies by too. If you want a relatively enjoyable cop film with two great performances from the two leads sure go ahead, want something truly brilliant though I’d say look elsewhere.

Maybe one of the greatest biopics oat. Malcolm X is a 3 and a half hour epic about the polarising, but brilliant civil rights activist Malcolm X who was assassinated by people he once called brothers in 1965. Spike Lee tells a pretty accurate story here and I think shows immense amounts of respect to the man and his many ups and downs in life. Denzel completely transforms into Malcolm, towards the end it’s hard to separate the two, with Malcolm and Denzel just merging until you forget it’s him and think it’s Malcolm, Probably helps however they share a small resemblance when Washington is done up in the costume and hair. It’s not an easy watch but does fly by for a film as long as the godfather part 2, I also think it’s a must watch for how biographical stories should be done and I love how it doesn’t really follow that formulaic biopic thing where it just jumps to when he’s famous immediately. A masterful film that Denzel should have won Best Actor for in 1993,

Unexpectedly fucked up. Such a rough watch but a truly brilliant film about how childhood sexual abuse can destroy people later in their lives. Many scenes made me look away or wince with anger and sadness. Joseph Gordon Levitt is superb in this and gives an extremely good performance and so does Brady Corbet. Michelle Trachtenberg was so so great as well. Despite how phenomenal this film is and how great it is to shine a light on the ugly subject matter, it’s a one and done for me I could never do it again it’s just so unbelievably uncomfortable to watch.
