Sinners
Finally a horror film that actually takes time to build their characters. The first half of the film before the party, I thought, was actually very well done. You see a lot of horrors that just jump straight into action and you don't really care what happens to the characters because you know nothing about them, but I'm happy that Sinners took its time to get going. I thought that the characters were actually interesting and well written, which is another thing horror's struggle with. Michael B. Jordan was brilliant as the Smokestack Twins, he gives a really good performance as them both. The entire cast is doing their job perfectly, whether they were one of the main cast or just a side character. The film also looks amazing. They way it's shot looks so good, it really benifited from being shot on Imax, it gives a big film like this that extra bit to make it feel as good as it was. I think the best thing about the film is the music. Ludwig Göransson really is a genius when it comes to music. The music was so good at matching the scene, whether it was a party scene or a tense scene, it was always fitting. Two scenes that I've been thinking about since I watched this are, the moment when they're showing all eras of music while Preacher Boy is playing. That scene was amazing. Hearing all the music mixing together was so cool and all the different eras being incorperated into eachother as the camera sweeps around the room was so impressive. The other scene was when they were singing The Rocky Road to Dublin. Mainly because I was a bit confused why they were singing that song, but it was very cool, with the Irish dancing as well. Just another really well made scene. Also, the writing I thought was really good. Ryan Coogler was able to make a horror script while making most characters have an interesting story that makes you care for them. The script also isn't boring, I think it really encapsulates the time that it is set in. He did a great job both writing and directing. He is just a great director that loves Michael B. Jordan so much he had to cast him twice in this film. All in all, I think this is a film that is a must see, a great story with amazing music, great cast and shot really well. A great cinema experience. Hopefully more people go to the cinema now to see this. Also give Ryan Coogler any director job he wants.
