Training Day
This film delivered and extra in every way I wanted. The color contrast used is so fitting for the crime/mystery thriller genre it takes up.
The bleak colors contrasting with the general brightness of daytime La.
Training day takes familiar type of story and ingeniously rebrands the whole genre of film.
Most American films tend to give you the plot in exposition to a point you can work out exactly what’s going on, however this film lets the viewer decide where the story is going until it takes that dark turn.
Denzel gives one of the best performances I’ve ever seen in cinema as he truly becomes this man who has been worn down over time due to the reality of the misery of life.
I love the questions it pushes to the viewers morals aswell in a way asking the viewer and challenging them on what they would do and how the morals of man can be changed and guided so easily.
Oh Ethan hawkes pretty good in this aswell playing a Neeky rookie cop.
This is how action should be done and sets the blueprint for how action films don’t have to be non-coherent slop and can have a meaningful story that can impact others.
