Before Sunrise
There's something depressing about being aware that we're going to be leaving someone or somewhere soon. We stop enjoying the things in between and start thinking about the ending of it.
Maybe that's the evidence that shows how deep the thing is, that feeling of sadness for the coming future is a proof that the thing we're currently experiencing is infinite.
We laugh a little softer, listen a little harder, hold eye contact a second longer than necessary, as if time might hesitate and spares us a little more out of politeness... But it never does.
I mean, it's not so bad if tonight is our only night, right?

A beautiful lie, or maybe just a necessary one. Or even maybe it's the ugly truth, or a necessary one too.
I know the cliche of "things aren't meant to last" got boring that whenever we read a quote that says that, we don't really feel the weight of it anymore. But nights like this, they restore the weight of it. They force us to feel it again, not as an idea, but as something physical, something sitting quietly in our chest.
And yet, the sadness lingers, not because it ends but because a part of us wishes it didn't have to end.
Maybe that's the point. Maybe things are only this beautiful because they're temporary. Because they leave. Because they can't stay long enough for us to get used to them.
But that begs the question, are things really that worth it because they last forever? Or are they worth it because they don't?
I love this movie so much.
