Loki
The first two episodes were insanely well done, made out to be a psychological thriller-mystery with these two detectives who don't trust each other but are somehow still drawn to each other. Like a sci-fi version of Sherlock Holmes if Holmes and Watson weren't as trusting in one another. This not only allows for us to see Loki and Mobius' (which I just find hilarious that his name is so close to Morbius) relationship fleshed out, allowing us to see the personality and inner weaknesses/insecurities with both Loki and Mobius, but specifically Loki and sort of allow him to turn from an antagonist to an anti-hero. But this show becomes all Marvelized (basically turn something to mimic the standard Marvel tropes and genres) and essentially ruins it for me.
After so much Marvel content, I just wanted something different, something unique from what I expected of Marvel (which is why I'm excited for Wandavision cause I hear it is all about sitcoms and travelling through different sitcom decades and sitcoms is one of my favourite genres of television shows). And I thought -- based on the first two episodes -- that Loki was going to be a mind-bending mystery with two central protagonists who don't trust each other but are forced to to defeat this big bad of the season. Nope. The moment Girl Loki (I forgot her name, and I don't care enough to search it up) showed up this show went downhill, turning into the standard Marvel bullshit I was getting tired of.
I get that the Marvel tropes and genres is what made them popular in the first place, but if I'm not mistaken, branching out of the standard superhero tropes were what made Marvel infinitely more popular than any other superhero universes out there. Because they were gutsy enough to form an entire universe, that is stepping outside of the tropes of the original superhero format (not in comics obviously, I mean more so in movies and television). Superhero movies were originally one-off movies or a series (like The Dark Knight) but Marvel took a chance and decided that they were going to create an expanded universe that not only allowed them to rake in boatloads of money, but also have one continuous universe with one giant Avengers movie that combines all the superheroes we were introduced to into one big ensemble movie to defeat big evils. But after 3 phases of non-stop fighting, superhero tropes, and repeated elements, I got bored. Which is why I think the movies that branched out from the classic superhero movie tropes were the better movies, Thor Ragnarok where the protagonist wasn't able to save the world (Asgard) and is forced to sacrifice it to defeat the antagonist. And the antagonist wasn't your classic evil villain, Hela had a personal connection to Thor.
To get out of my very long explanation, Loki could've been a subversive series that transformed Loki's character, but nope. It reverted back to its roots and in turned made me care less and less about it as it went on. Also, not allowing Owen Wilson to say "wow" once? Shame. Also Owen Wilson carried (same with the Alligator Loki).
