Sinners
90/100
In the last few years, I haven’t gone to the cinema much, but I’m trying to change that, and seeing Sinners on the big screen (IMAX-enhanced, with the music literally vibrating the floor) was probably my best cinema experience in ages.
I watched what I thought were the three most promising prospects of 2025, One Battle After Another, Sinners, and Marty Supreme, all in theaters, and Sinners was easily the best. Obba comes in second, and Marty Supreme third. I did see Obba last year, so my memory is a bit blurry, but I don’t think recency bias played a role here.
The music is insanely good, the acting is incredible, and it all comes together with a really strong premise. The vampire genre might be a bit drained at this point, but I think Ryan still managed to make it feel fresh.
Honestly, the best part of the whole experience was going in completely blind, not even knowing it was a horror movie or that vampires were involved.
