Treasure Planet
95/100
OG sassy brunette skater boy trying to find the One Piece in space after his father abandoned him.
Although I had seen this before, it honestly felt like my first time watching it since I was really little back then. Nostalgia usually affects my ratings, but not here. This genuinely holds up.
The animation was sometimes kind of weird, especially the mix of hand-drawn and CGI elements, but it was still really well done overall. It looked off in a few moments, yet impressive at the same time. The worldbuilding was great and the main cast was fantastic. I was invested the whole way through.
It’s obviously made for kids, but the themes are more mature than you’d expect. The absent father storyline, the whole mentorship aspect, and the greed vs morality conflict all give it a strong emotional core. Some parts felt a little cringe to me, but it never took away from the experience.
This was probably one of my favorite movies when I was younger, and it honestly might still be my favorite Disney movie. It’s not revolutionary or anything, but it fits my taste perfectly.
