secret screaming at cineworld was (as the other reviews suggest) a complete failure. any film that uses the r-slur in 2026 is an automatic flop - especially coupled with AI use, jokes about underaged girls, jokes about EDs and sexualised imagery of children

First cinema trip of 2026, and off to a great start. Such a fantastic exploration of power, control, idealised success and the distance people are willing to go to prove something (moreso to themselves, than to others). An individual who feels so entitled to success he hasn’t yet earned, going to the ends of the earth for a chance to prove something. Marty’s drive towards proving a point is admirable at times, although eventually the novelty wears off and we begin to see a different man all together. What wouldn’t he do for a shot at this, in the end? I loved how sex was used throughout this movie to showcase Marty’s relationships with others, but importantly, how much he got off on the idea of power and the self-proclaiming pedestal. His and Kay’s relationship felt like a great show of this, with her own projections onto Marty bringing about an interesting dynamic. In fact, his relationships with all the characters really helped to drive (what sometimes felt like) a dry, simple plot. Character-driven media at its finest. Lots of political messages sprinkled throughout really reinforced the greatness of this film for me. Incredible casting and acting. Strong script. Potentially a bit too long of a film. 9/10

• i do think this film has been overhyped slightly. it was good, don't get me wrong, but its comparison to sinners based on the rotten tomatos score had me very very excited - but it sadly fell short for me:( • script was good and very clever - lots of funny moments which felt natural in the film. the plot was a nice addition to the kind of horror we've had in 2025 + i do think it brought a fun pacing idea to what could have felt like a typical film • acting was good. filming/ cinematography was good too • i did enjoy it as a film - it was tense enough without it being unbearable (like 'bring her back' was to me), had lots of fun ideas that i think they did well, but it definitely wasn't the horror film of the year • i do think that at least 40 minutes of it could have been taken away with no impact? the middle was completely vacant of plot and just served us more of an insight into two side characters without any true meaning. felt juvenile and was completely misplaced for me • i do still rate it high because it did deserve it - i just felt like it was missing something to push it up there with the best

Wholesome, creepy, reflective, and a top tier Ghibli. Fab and thought provoking.
