This movie is beautiful, tragic, and disgusting. It displays heavy themes of abandonment, poverty, and trafficking without being gratuitous - a lost art in modern indie films. What makes Lilya 4-ever so effective is that it never sensationalises Lilya's suffering, it simply shows it, and the result is a film that feels disturbingly real and emotionally devastating.
