Zach Cregger does it again with a really unique and extremely surprising film. The premise alone is so intriguing, there’s tons of suspense and some very crazy kills, but the most surprising part of this movie is that it is actually really really FUNNY.
The ability to balance feelings of dread, insane action sequences, and laugh out loud funny moments the way this movie does shouldn’t be possible, but this movie totally does it. All the while creating compelling characters that would be interesting to watch even without the central mystery.
Overall, I really liked the narrative choice to show the same events from multiple character’s perspectives, but occasionally — especially early on — it did cause things to drag and I just wanted to get to some actual action. That was only in a few small moments though and after the first act the pacing feels pretty rapid.
Definitely one worth seeing with a big audience and makes me excited for Cregger’s next project. Fingers crossed that it’s that Henchman movie for the DCU.
