Bring Her Back
If I was warned about one thing before starting this movie, it was the fact that it’s a hard watch. I was told it’s bleak and completely depressing. Jesus Christ ALL of that was so true. But if one thing is true it is that these directors are PHENOMENAL. Australian horror never fails but these directors in specific? I want to see everything they do from here on out.
Bring her back is a beautiful, DEEPLY horrific movie that had me sobbing and screaming and really feeling for these poor characters.
Just as it was with talk to me, the moment I saw how these kids bonded (which I’m gonna say was that moment under the bed) I was horrified. Begging for it to not be a horror movie because I could never want anything bad to happen to them. Their actors are PERFECT. Like absolutely perfect. The chemistry is just gut wrenching.
And speaking of acting, Laura, the foster mom, is the most brilliantly acted, nuanced and horrifying character I’ve ever seen put to a screen. I honestly love how you learn to love her at first, putting all of her issues to the back of your mind as she builds this trust with these kids… until,,,, later.
Fuck. I lOVE THIS MOVIE.
Also on a much lighter and less I’m still crying from this movie note if these directors can do one thing well it is absolutely party scenes. This and talk to me have the BEST party scenes. They throw you into them and you’re having just as much fun as the characters.
God, though, I don’t even know how I can write anything about this movie without spoilers.
Horror as a whole is bleak. I mean of course it is, you’re watching the art of death and devastation, but this movie in particular is SO fucking bleak. Talk to me had some BRILLIANT comedy, but this movie, (although it has some wonderful parts that I did laugh at, those were all towards the start)
This movie is so. Goddamn. Upsetting. The only levity you get is when you’re seeing the movie through piper’s eyes. Which BY THE WAY! THE USE OF HER CHARACTER BEING BLIND? OH MY GOD??? ABSOLUTELY ABSOLUTELY BRILLIANT. OOOH MY GOD I was SCREAMING!!!!!
Also the SPECIAL EFFECTS!!!! OLLIES TEEEEETHHHHH FUCK OFF.
I could write an essay about how deeply beautiful this movie is but that’d get annoying so I’m gonna stop now.
Grapefruit.
