Sinners
“You Keep Dancing With The Devil, One Day He's Gonna Follow You Home.”
I went into Sinners expecting a straightforward horror film, but it moves effortlessly between genres and becomes something far more layered. The concept feels genuinely unique frightening, emotional, and often beautiful. Its grounding in Black culture, history, and community gives the film real significance, with music acting as a driving force for its energy and emotion. The dance sequence in particular is unforgettable, one of the most striking scenes I’ve seen in any film, where movement and music feel completely inseparable. The performances are excellent across the board, with everyone fully locked into the film’s vision and tonal shifts. While the climax shifts into a more Marvel like spectacle that slightly softens the intimacy the film had been building, it doesn’t erase the power of what came before. Watching it with Grace made the experience even more impactful, turning the shared emotion and surprises into something that truly stuck with me.
