Inception
YES. Yes yes yes. Nolan you beautiful genius. This is what you actually call a movie where you won't fall asleep for a single second
The concept is brilliant and I'm willing to bet Nolan didn't just pull this outta nowhere, he definitely backed it up with some real science, biology or psychology maybe, to make sure it all made sense. I mean I know for a fact lucid dreaming is a real thing
There weren't any crazy beautiful landscapes or whatever but Nolan more than made up for it with solid camera work and that sharp pacing where something's always happening. And that whole dead wife trope that's usually so cliche, he flipped it into something that actually affects the guy's subconscious and his actions and his life in the most literal way possible
The whole trick of getting Murphy's character to trust him and even help him out? That was genius
Honestly I didn't see it coming. Watching the main guy dig through his own subconscious and fight it is genuinely interesting cause for him it's basically processing the trauma with his dad and their not so perfect relationship
The dream city shots deserve a special shoutout cause to me that's exactly what a dream could look like
And one more thing. Thank you Nolan for that line "we can never remember the beginning of a dream. Try to remember how you got here." Cause holy shit that's actually true. We all know it but we almost never notice or just never really think about it
