Interstellar
I kept seeing it all over TikTok, especially in those Letterboxd posts where they’re like “the movies you’ll always find in someone’s top four” - you know, the basic normie picks. And Interstellar is always in there. Honestly, that kind of pisses me off. Just because a movie’s popular doesn’t mean it’s suddenly trash. And just because something’s obscure doesn’t automatically make it a masterpiece. That’s not how any of this works
Anyway, I only rewatched it recently because I thought I hadn’t really seen it. Like, maybe once or twice a long time ago, but I didn’t remember anything except a few random frames. Not even scenes, just shots. So I figured I probably never actually watched it - maybe just saw clips on TikTok and convinced myself I had. But then while I was rewatching, I started remembering bits and pieces, and I was like oh wait, I did see this before. I just never paid attention. Probably had it on in the background or something
So this time I actually sat down and watched it for real
It’s popular for a reason. It’s a genuinely complex film that tackles some real heavy themes, and the way it handles them, the directing, the acting, the visuals, it’s just incredible. It grabs you by the soul. You’re completely in it. I was hooked the whole time
And what gets me is that it touches on something humanity might actually have to deal with one day. We’re not gonna be on Earth forever. It won’t happen anytime soon, but eventually it will. Earth won’t last forever, just like the Sun won’t. So at some point, if we haven’t wiped ourselves out, we’re gonna have to figure something out
You can’t just dismiss a movie with this level of craft, this cast, this much attention to every little detail. People on TikTok lumping it in with Zodiac or The Godfather or whatever as if it’s just another basic pick - come on. Everyone’s got their own taste. No need to trash a movie just because a lot of people like it. Popular doesn’t automatically mean bad. There are popular movies that are total garbage, and there are popular movies that are genuinely great
And Interstellar is not overrated. I’ll die on that hill. Hans Zimmer did the score, which already tells you something. The soundtrack is absolutely gorgeous. And the way they handled the space stuff - before this movie, I didn’t give a single shit about space. After watching it, I got genuinely interested. Like, I started watching science videos, listening to podcasts, reading articles, all about space, especially black holes and how they work. That’s the mark of a great film - when it sparks a real curiosity in you. A hunger for actual knowledge
I’m really glad I gave it a proper rewatch. The movie’s not overhyped. It’s just brilliant. Straight up
