“hey, sam? i’m doing good, huh?” lots of great things to say about this movie, very heartwarming. i actually thought darryl was a real one in the beginning but bro was definitely tripping, like why are we assaulting children as a grown ass man? i definitely enjoyed seeing palmer’s character development. even though his growth was minimally displayed, sometimes it’s the things you didn’t see and are implied that hit the most. rest in peace vivian, she was such a great character with the screen time she had. she was genuinely smoking a cig in bed, shit was so funny to see because where did that even come from? great movie.

“she’s like a frappuccino with hips.” honestly, not my typical watch; however, i do dabble occasionally. the way alvin did paris so wrong and gained a crazy ego was bullshit, but that is how some people act. my favorite character has to be alvin’s dad played by steve harvey, everything about him was so hilariously off. he was definitely way too invested in alvin’s social and dating life, it was so funny to see him and his wife fuck around, dude was a freak. for sure want to see steve harvey get back into the acting scene. in all, movie was great and the message couldn’t be any truer, just be yourself.

“don’t tell me my wife is dead. don’t tell me my wife is dead.” solid. the movie really hits at the nature of fatherhood itself alongside the troubles of raising a child alone. kevin hart played his role really well. my favorite scene is definitely when matt breaks down at the beginning of the movie, a popular one for sure, we can really see how hard his wife’s death was on him. i’m glad however that movies like this exist. it’s not so easy for parents to healthily express what they’re feeling so at least with this movie, men as fathers specifically are given something to relate to in their struggles.

“i wanna make it just like him. i wanna take care of my family.” i don’t care what anyone else says, this is a great movie. it’s one of those where you actually have to share a relatable passion to get the most from this. this definitely shows the dark side of not only basketball, but all things sports as seen with terron’s dad and the “contracts.” the most beautiful scene is definitely after the unofficial game where terron looks onto the blacktop watching the kids play basketball, sending him back into a time in his mind where he played basketball for the love of the game. this is absolute cinema.
