Prisoners
comfortably one of the most depressing films that I've seen in a long time.
Hugh Jackman as Keller was such a good casting, seeing what happened to Alex (Paul Dano) was pretty grim (and also pretty sad considering the backstory of Alex's character), but the portrayal of what Keller believed to be justice through faith, and the development into what could simply be considered as 'evil' was written so perfectly. Jake Gyllenhaal was great as Loki as well, and from the atmosphere of the film itself, he complemented the gloomy settings throughout this film, with what appears to be his subtle frustration at his own inadequacy throughout this case.
The plot twist towards the end was executed really well, leading to a heartbreaking final scene. The film is left seemingly unresolved, however, it induces more of a pang of sadness rather than confusion. An intense and phenomenal watch.
