Zodiac
david fincher and thrillers is always a layup, what a watch this was.
the acting in this film naturally was great, rdj’s character added quippy humour to what was a pretty dark watch. mark ruffalo was also good in this film, the scene with where john carroll lynch was being interviewed by the detectives, him and ruffalo really helped create suspense to the scene, it keeps you at the edge of your seat. jake gyllenhaal was the star of the show here, especially towards the final act, his character is a lot more involved in the plot here, as his perspective takes control here, and there were multiple moments of what could have been a climax, from the basement, to his meeting with the prisoner (won’t mention the name), and the moment in the store, felt like a really full circle moment. the development of all three protagonists here are done pretty intricately as the time jumps occur throughout the film, which is all visible from their physical appearance, despite how minimal they are at times, especially in the earlier stages, they add a lot more of unspoken details to these characters.
the film is paced in such a way that it allows a lot of breathing to develop such a complex case, and it grips you right from the opener. even though there are time skips, it is still easy to follow. it is definitely a slow-burn watch, and it builds up so well to the final act. it is really nice how it is left a little unexplained with its ending, there are no clichés here. a very fulfilling film, it was a great recommendation to watch.
