Joker
i recently rewatched it again and wow. i remember when i watched it in the theater for the first time it had me in a chokehold and it still has.
i was so impatient for this movie, i always loved the joker, i loved joaquin SO MUCH already and knew i was going to love the movie but like everyone else when we discovered the movie it was a SHOCK to discover a literal masterpiece. i remember the noise it made back then and it’s insane how it resonates even more with our world today and how incredibly sad and concerning that is. everything about this movie is intelligent, nothing is wasted, every act and sentence has a purpose. the atmosphere of this movie is so unique. i am really sensitive to this type of uneasy/uncomfortable atmosphere and i never stumbled upon a movie that made me feel so much like, not only something, but everything was off during its entirety. the scene where arthur crushes the head of the dude he used to work with, it absolutely shook me to the core on my first watch and i remember clearly that it was a 100% from pure terror of hearing gary’s yell. now that i watched it again it was not that much of an horrific scene to me anymore but it’s still a scene that left a huge impression on me.
i love the end scene more than anything, i love that to me it was so obvious that it’s once again arthur’s imagination going wild by putting him in the light even in the chaos he sort of created, but it was not obvious for everyone so i guess it’s up to interpretation to figure what this scene holds according to each person.
useless to say that Joaquin’s acting was breathtaking, seeing how bad he treated his body in order to play perfectly the part was actually hurtful to watch but it did gave off something really special and was completing the already perfect picture, no one could’ve done it like him, he is the best joker we ever had to me. i love arthur and i feel so much empathy toward him, he is so ill, but this fucker never fails to give me goosebumps. useless to say that the cinematography is beautiful. useless to say that the portray of our society and especially social classes that is done here is good enough to make you sick (especially the scene where we witness the contrast between the upper class being inside all warm, purposely ignoring the lower class which is freezing outside to defend their rights is so real and disquieting).
this movie will leave a huge long-lasting impression on anyone who watches it. one of my favorite movies of all time.
