Her
first of all… i knew samantha’s voice was Scarlett Johansson from the very start, but icl this made me view her slightly different💀 and the receptionist was Chris Pratt?? mcu ahh link up
i really liked the futuristic world the film presents because it honestly doesn’t feel that unrealistic for the future. a life where everything is digitalised and real human connections gets harder, causing people to start filling that emptiness with technology. samantha becoming that “other half” for theodore and while she slowly makes him happier, it’s also kind of sad. like he’s talking to something that is designed for him, almost like he is talking to himself…
naturally, he is going to develop real feelings. how could he not? she literally talks back, shows emotion, and gets weird in an very interesting way💀 like yo remote sex? unheard of😭 it’s obscure, but like not completely unbelievable given how society is. and i think the director did their job well, especially in making us question whether the relationship with samantha is “real”, as it’s far from the traditional form of love that we know. also, when theodore says,
i think i have felt everything i'm ever going to feel. and from here and out i'm not going to feel anything new. just… lesser versions of what i've already felt
that feeling of emotional exhaustion is one of the realest things i’ve heard. personally anyway.
i felt both sad and weirdly happy for him. i thought he was lonely, but to himself he clearly wasn’t. well until you find out samantha is in love with hundreds of others too💀 very different, but i enjoyed it because it was curated well, especially in how it explores loneliness, love, and how the idea that connection can exist outside our typical views
