Her
oh my gosh i’d be SO mad if i found out my COMPUTER was cheating on me
and i KNOW one of them 641 was freaking ALAN WATTS
i watched a youtube video talking about people having parasocial relationships with AI like yk the famous ones character ai and Replika VR. it was talking about how the pursuit of AI in relationships can be very unhealthy for people and i agree with that but also there’s things like this. if something fake genuinely makes a person so happy, would it be right to call it out and stop it? like yeah it’s gonna cripple your social life and skills but hey maybe all people need is an AI that loves them. especially since you can shape the way they respond and basically make them your dream person, just without the physicality.
10 ducats says that in 5 years, i will be in a totally serious relationship with a majestic-sounding Operating System.
i like how natural the acting is, and the story. i could see people in like 5 years fully communicating and having deep relationships with AI and that’s kinda crazy. the way the characters speak is just so realistic and i think that’s great because you really gotta see this stuff as a possibility in this day and age. probably not in 2013 but hey this aged well.
Theodore’s connection with Samantha goes past being in love with a device, he’s in love with the idea of being understood (by said device). Samantha was like a portal to something unreal, a relationship where you could open to someone and they couldn’t hurt you back. not saying that Samantha didn’t have a mind or something but what’s she gonna do? i thought this was kinda gonna be like Shame where he’s obsessed with her and society frowns upon it but it’s not! his relationship isn’t shown as an unhealthy addiction, but something technological that still hurts emotionally. physically even with the way they were panting together.
ooh also the attempted introduction of Isabel into the relationship shows how far you could allow a relationship like this to go - not very far. like at some point you gotta realize that this thing on your phone and a real, warm human are two incredibly different things.
also i feel that Samantha’s departure was just inevitable.
She is inevitable.
i like that Theodore acknowledged that Samantha isn’t real. i think he knew she wasn’t gonna stay with him forever.
wow i couldn’t even tell that was Scarlett Johnasson! she sounds so different when she’s MOANING IN MY EAR
i think both Scarlett Johansson’s and Joaquin Phoenix’s performances were great in this cause why did Samantha actually feel not real. like not once in this movie did i actually stop and realize that SOMEONE was voicing her. actually, the only time i did think about voices i couldn’t see was when Theodore was calling that SexyKitten or whatever. and she was a human!
