Surf's Up
“I don’t know what happened…I just let go”
17 year old Cody maverick embarks on a journey to prove to others, along with himself, that he has what it takes to be one of the greats. Living in the recluse fishing village of shiverpool in the North Pole Cody is visited by “big z” a professional surfer who’s hip with the youth, he leaves Cody with the message “never give up, always find away”
When Cody misses his chance to make it big and win a starting position in the 10th annual big z memorial surf off he swims away from home and becomes a stow away on the whale, a sea creature housing other young potential surfers that’s set sail for the island of pen gu
Over the course of Cody’s documentary as a rising star in the penguin surfing world he befriends and butts heads with a numerous cast of characters most notably, chicken Joe, Cody’s best friend, a chicken who has found peace with himself and may be the 5th and final Buddha, Tank, a insufferable penguin man-child who can only be described as the love child between Donald trump and romana flowers second evil ex Lucas Lee; and Lani, the life guard of the island who still won’t return my calls despite making it very clear that it doesn’t matter to me that she’s just a fictional penguin.
With the help of his mentor “the geek” Cody learns that the art of surfing isn’t about winning, it’s about enjoyment and that inspiration is not a path to follow, but rather a push to be something greater, after all in the words of the late great Big Z “the best surfer out there is the one having the most fun”
