Blow Out
A movie where sound becomes a weapon of the incarceration, trapping a man in the world of conspiracy after he accidentally taped a government assassination. This movie make sound as the central engine that revs the narrative suspense with every hiss of reel tapes Jack rewinds.
John Travolta rocks a controlled, subdued performance as Jack Terry, a soundman who recorded the assassination. Being the polar opposite, Nancy Allen as Sally Badina also feels just as essential, especially her loose, careless acting paired up with his restraints, and it flows. John Lithgow also exceptionally animalistic, pulling more unhinged performance as Burke.
Set in the grimy, dog-eat-dog world, even a sound gets devoured by the corruption. This one is THE shit of De Palma work i have seen. A sensational masterpiece that still imbued with sexual slasher undercurrent, with split diopter and voyeuristic camera floating like it's just another Tuesday for him.
"It's a good scream... it's a good scream... a good scream."
