It Chapter Two
I haven't fully rewatched this movie in years because the emotional hold on me it had from the day it came out until well into 2020 was so great I didn't think I could emotionally handle watching this movie, but I had a really big urge to so I sat down and rewatched it today and wow. I cried, like a lot, which was expected. I adore this movie, a sentiment most people, even ones hardcore into the fandom like I was, don't really hold. I know it's not a perfect movie, some of the cgi is weird, the writing can be weak at times, the pacing is off for some, but honestly I can overlook all of that. These characters are so dear to me, hold such a special place in my heart, that I just can't help but love every second I spend with them. I love the the second act walking tours section of the movie, Richie's especially holding an extremely emotional place in my heart. I love how seamless the older actors were, and of course I adored the flashbacks to our original kids. This is not a scary movie, but again, I'm completely fine with that. This is, in my eyes, a coming of age movie first and it absolutely excels in that area. The emotional parts hit, mostly because we've spent so much time building up these characters that we truly know them and know how hard these scenes hit for them. There's symbolism, metaphorical imagery, references, everything I love picking apart in movies, which only adds to how much I love it. I love this movie, so so much, and it holds such a special place in my heart, which I know it's silly that it's this movie that means so much to me, but it is what it is. I'm so glad I rewatched it, but I don't think I can do it any time again soon.
