Sinners
Deserves every bit of praise it gets. Every character was deeply complex, cinematography was beautiful (especially in love with the aspect ratio switches), music was great. The themes and messaging weren't just "racism is bad" but so much more: themes of maintaining autonomy, resisting material wealth or power, collective false freedom and systematic racism were conveyed perfectly (and for a simple consumer like me, I managed to understand it all). We really got to see how nuanced and human this community was all while not sacrificing great action, humour and a relatively fast pace. All that without even touching on that incredible, tear-worthy ending and post credits scene. I know it's not a hot take but Michael A and B Jordan both had incredible performances, and so did every other actor too.
The garlic disliker on fire was aura as hell too. Also why was there so much dialogue surrounding eating pussy.
