Lost in Translation
I've never seen a movie depict loneliness and isolation in a better way. This movie deeply resonated with me.
The main characters walk the line between romantic and platonic. I'm still unsure how I feel about the romantic aspect of it, since she's in her 20s and he's in his 50s, but I have to admit this whole tightrope act is written masterfully.
The lead actors both deliver great performances and the fact that Johansson was only 17 for the most part of the filming still blows me away.
Would've given it 5/5 if the depiction of japanese people was more accurate. I feel like the jokes get uncomfortable and slightly racist at times. I don't think it's a huge issue, but it broke the immersion for me a few times.
