Le Samouraï
Stayed up until 4:00 to watch this and oh my God. I think I picked the best time to watch this, the dark atmosphere just resonated perfectly with this movie. Le Samourai just felt perfect from the beginning scene with Costello laying on the bed and smoking which lasted for a few minutes, to the ending scene with Costello choosing not to kill the band player. I was fully immersed in this movie, first handful of minutes there was no dialogue, very quiet movie and that’s something to love about it. The symbolism of the caged bird is beautiful and showcases Costello’s loneliness perfectly. Visually amazing, the color blue was very prominent and contributed to the cold and isolated feel the whole way through. I came into this thinking it’d be a high action movie but I'm relieved that it wasn’t, the minimal action made this feel unconventional in a way, not like a lot of movies with over the top violence. Instead, we see Costello’s calculated movements and how methodical he is WITHOUT a fight every other scene. Slow movie, but that’s what makes it great. I wouldn’t have it any other way.
I never lose, not really.
gonna cop a trench coat too
